Marines Landing at Tarawa -- Charles J. Andres

Used as cover for Sea Power Magazine. This was the second cover in a series of nearly two dozen covers done during World War II.

Mr. Andres delivered the first cover himself and met the editor for the first time. The editor thought he was the delivery boy. Andres asked how he was going to crop the painting. "Why the hell do you care? Aren't you the delivery boy?" When the editor realized he was talking to the artist, he eagerly asked if he could get anymore. "The Marines have just taken Tarawa, and there are no photographs. Can you do a Marine landing?"
